  • Broccoli - Sprouting

    Quantity:

(Brassica oleracea) - Conventional Untreated Seed

Broccoli Sprouts are a great source of vitamins and minerals, they can be easily sprouted in jar or shallow soil. The sprouts are ready to eat after just 5-7 days!

Sprouting is also a great way of engaging kids with gardens and getting them to think about green foods as being tasty and fun. Be artistic with sprouts and think outside the box.

    How to Grow

Jar Rinsing Method - Remove the lid from a glass jar and replace it with some fine mesh such as fly screen, securing it around the jar rim with a rubber band. Ensure all equipment is sterilised before use. Soak a small amount of seed (approx. 2 tablespoons for a 500g jar) in water for 6 hours. Invert jar to drain water and leave in this position. Rinse the seeds 2-3 times per day draining immediately. After 4-7 days they will be ready to eat. Once the desited sprout size is achieved they can be put in the fridge to halt growth keeping the shoots succulent and fresh.

Microgreen Method - Use a shallow seedling tray and fill with your soil medium such as seed raising mix, coil etc. Sprinkle seeds evenly over soil medium then cover lightly with some more seed raising mixture. Keep moist and after 5-7 days you can trim the shoots off and use as you want.

Sow all year indoors or in a protected area outdoors
