  • Tamarillo - Red Plant

    Quantity:

(Cyphomandra betacea) - Certified Organic Plants - Grown at Greenpatch Organic Seeds

A fast growing, short-lived tree to 2.5 metres high, also known as Tree Tomatoes. Originating in the Andes Mountains, the bunches of red fruit begin to develop after 18 months - ripening in Autumn. With shallow roots, Tamarillo's appreciate a good layer of mulch and prefer small frequent waterings. Many people keep them well pruned as the brittle branches support fruit better when closer to the tree's trunk. They grow wonderfully in amongst orchids, where they are protected from frosts and high heat of midday summers.

Eaten fresh or in jams & jellies - although you can eat the skin, most find it rather bitter.

Available all year. Sold in 100mm Squat pot.
