Elderberry is a hardy shrub to 4 metres, white flowers burgundy berries. Use flowers for tea or ripe berries in cooking and wine.
Sambucas nigra is the only variety that is said to be ok to eat un-cooked but it is still recommended to cook these barries before eating. Leaves used for insect repellent, added to compost. Flowers make a cleansing tea. Many uses. White flowers are highly ornamental attracting native bees to the garden.
