Native to South America, Ice Cream Bean is part of the legume family Fabaceae. Widely grown for food, timber, shade, medicinal purposes and some cultures even use it to create alcoholic beverages. A quick growing plant often used in Permaculture designed gardens as a chop-n-drop plant for extra soil nitrogen, as well a great compost material - Leaves can be used as mulch or for animal fodder
