Panama Berry is a very fast growing tree reaching 7m tall at maturity. For ease of management it is recommended to keep the tree pruned between 2m - 5m. The leaves are soft and it has an ornamental growth habit, with long branches drooping slightly towards the ground. Generally producing fruit within the first 12 months of being in the ground and becoming more productive as time goes on. The small soft cream flowers are attractive to birds, bees and other insects. It's fruit similar to the size of a blueberry, with a red skin and sweet flavor.
Protect from frost as they are a tropical plant. Tolerant of dry periods once established. In areas on Queensland it is regarded as an environmental weed so be sure to check before purchasing if you are in the northern parts of Australia.
