Hardy perennial growing to 2m tall and wide. Variegated Elderberry is used similar to normal elderberry producing white flowers for tea or ripe dark berries in cooking or wine. Sambucas nigra is the only variety that is said to be ok to eat un-cooked but it is still recommended to cook these barries before eating. Leaves used for insect repellent, added to compost. Flowers make a cleansing tea. Many uses. White flowers are highly ornamental attracting native bees to the garden.
